
ISKU-FILAN (Strong Girl)
Empowerment for New Mainer Girls and Women
Maine Community Integration’s flagship program is Isku-Filan (Strong Girl), which focuses on educating and empowering New Mainer girls to be confident in themselves, work together, and make positive changes in their communities. This program is based on the eight elements of girls’ empowerment, an extension of social determinants of health.

In the past six years, this youth-led program has grown into the following categories:
Civic Engagement

Parent Leadership - Immigrant parents learn how to navigate the school system and advocate for the needs of their children

We Matter - a youth-led program working with Lewiston High School to advocate for anti-racist policy change. The program also uses digital storytelling for youth to tell their stories from their own perspectives
